March 2007

Hello.  Hola, buenos dias and welcome to our March newsletter, penned personally by the Village Drinks Team. We’re a small bunch but we sure are friendly.  We organise nice events too.

What future for Government Communications?

Say hello to Howell.  He’s a nice man.  He’s also the Permanent Secretary at Government Communications.  That means he is responsible for the strategy, coordination and effectiveness of government communication across Whitehall.  He also used to be Political Secretary to the former Prime Minister, John Major.  We’re delighted to say he’s joining us at our political event on the 10th April at the National Liberal Club.  Tickets for this special event must be reserved online through our website in advance, and are limited to 150 places only.

A little bit of art

Village Drinks regular and artist Peter Faulkner, has kindly invited our other members to come and see his exhibition, entitled "Poise", which runs at the Coningsby Gallery, 30 Tottenham Street, until Saturday the 17th March.

It’s open daily from 9.30 - 7pm; and we think it’s really rather good.  So now you know.

Village Women!

We’re proud to say that our events are shaking up the options that gay people have to mix and socialise in London.  We’re even being invited on the national radio to talk about it.

The latest shake up came in the form of Village Women – our ladies’ only night which launched this week.  Just over 110 ladies came and live entertainment was on offer courtesy of cast members from the hit musical, The Producers.  We’re happy it went very well, and yep, we’ll have another event like this for you very shortly. :)

Presentation and Networking Evening

We also like to say a bit about other people’s events.  Our happy partners over at Merrill Lynch have organized a presentation and networking evening along with the LBS GLN Network.

The evening is designed to give an insight into Merrill and the financial services, and to introduce you to LGBT staff working at Merrill Lynch.

Let's face the music

We at Village Drinks love a good song and dance.  So, this month we’ve been a bit clever and arranged a great deal for any of our members to get best seats at only £25 to see Porgy and Bess at the Savoy.

The Gershwins' musical masterpiece is one of the towering achievements of Twentieth Century American musical theatre. A bittersweet love story set in South Carolina during the Great Depression, the work features arguably one of the greatest, most beautiful and moving musical scores ever written for the stage.

Drop us a line if you’d like to go, and we’ll do our best to help you out.

There are Jobs going…

At Edelman public affairs.  So if you want to apply for a job in a top international PR agency or a finance/IT job with Merrill Lynch take a look at the new vacancies currently showing on our website.

We hope some of them are of interest.

This Month’s Event - Tues 27th March – The Langley, Covent Garden

This month, we’re back at this classic venue by popular demand.  We’ll be announcing the two lucky winners for last month’s competition.  Someone’s off to sunny Spain!

We’re expecting around 650 people at this, so we have booked a nice large space for everyone. As usual, all guests will get complimentary wine on arrival before 8.30pm; and there will be live entertainment on hand to keep things lively.

And finally…

We have decided to give our website a little polish and introduce some nice new elements to it.  In celebration, we’ll be holding a special party, soon, to mark this occasion. it’ll knock your socks off!

We look forward to seeing you back at the Langley on 27th March !
